THE CONCEPT OF SIN

BY OGBENI LA

The more I look at it, the more it seems that the concept of sin is the most audacious invention in dubiety ever concocted. Before you scream blasphemy, take a brief jolly ride with me with an open mind. For the purpose of this intellectual voyage, let’s regard sin through the eyes of an average Christian.

Sin is what we are born into because of Adam and Eve’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden. Simple instruction from your maker. Adam don’t eat out of that fruit, the one at the middle. The rest is ‘sinstory’. The Bible later arrogantly declares that, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. This is tenable explanation for why God sent his only begotten son to die for our sins and whosoever believes in him shall not perish but gain everlasting life.

Straightforward plot.By insinuation, the bible suggests we are sinners from birth. Considering how it is nearly impossible to live without falling short of biblical definitions of sin, this is agreeable. Even when you try to control your conscious actions, your thoughts will be there to remind you of your Adamic lineage. But what I find ridiculous about the plot is why a Supreme Being would create an imperfect human and refuse to take responsibility for his misadventure.

I mean, what do you expect from a flawed creation? If we are inherently imperfect then it is questionable to be subjected to a standard that has intolerance for fallibility. And to think the whole arrangement is even devoid of human consent or input makes it arbitrary.Take sin away from the gospel of salvation and what you have is emptiness. Without sin, the gospel won’t fly. Jesus son of God won’t have an alibi to claim justication over the way you choose to live your life. Nobody will be bold enough to guilttrip you into giving your life to the Spiritman that gave his life up for you without your approval before you were born. Pardon the oversight that the Sin inventors have a penchant fo disregarding your consent in their equation.

Lastly, Hell won’t make sense. Sin is the only justification Christians have to stoop God so low nto asserting his supremacy over his creation by creating a fiery furnace where people who fall short of his impossible standard will suffer eternal damnation. But then I get it. Without sin, there won’t be law and vice versa. Without law, there won’t be order. Sin is perhaps our punishment for inability as humans to maintain simple order.

Well I really i am into Jesus . I feel sad when I hurt my fellow humans and also when I commit sin, I want to be better everyday but it is difficult , I really I am into Jesus not because I might go to hell but just because he loves me irrespective of my sins and because when no one is there for me he is a faithful reliable friend at all times.

His existence consoles me , it gives me joy comfort and peace .

Most times I feel like there is nothing left for me on this earth, I feel lost empty and deserted . I feel there is no use being here , I want to just die most times , but when I remember someone called Jesus loves me I am healed of this grievous thoughts and this singular thought process saves my feet from falling
