DONALD TRUMP : ASSASINATION ATTEMPT AND WHAT IT COULD MEAN FOR NIGERIAN POLITICS

By Abu Onyiani

Since Thomas Matthew Crooks shot and wounded the 78 years old former President and the Republican Candidate for the 2024 American Presidential elections Donald John Trump, goodwill messages and political commentaries on the matter has since become the number, particularly from political actors in Nigeria.

Religious leaders, many who do not bat an eyelid when Nigerians are slaughtered by bloodthirsty Neanderthals have sent their prayers and well wishes, because trending on social media nowadays matter to them more than anything else.

Nigerian politicians have since sent their hypocritical goodwill messages condemning electoral violence, but I fear the attempt may have given them new ideas on how to treat political opponents.

Up until a few years ago when a certain level of normalcy returned to the ruling elites, political assassinations was a frequent occurrence in Nigerian, particularly before elections. However, as if they had signed an MOU to stop killing themselves, such attempts have drastically reduced even though not entirely eliminated from our politics of calumny.

The vast majority of killings have now shifted to their followers, particularly the youths who are either thugs or victims of the actions of thugs.

Away from how swiftly the situation was handled, and the inquest into the shooting, which has included shouts for the resignation of the Director of the United States Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle, my fear is that such killings may be on the rise again.

It is no news that Nigerians and Nigerian political leaders love to use the USA as the benchmark for their actions.

So, where one of the most elite forces in the World failed to protect one of their most powerful citizens, who is to say they won’t compare the unacceptable mistake of the Secret Service with the inactions of the Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Security for when they either fail to or successfully carry out an assassination attempt.

The stench of the hypocrisy of Nigerian Leaders is unmatched anywhere on Earth and Hell. For a group of hopelessly corrupt and malevolent beasts, even the devil himself would have turned and twisted in Hades when he learnt they were sending anti political violence messages to the USA.

Dirty kettles calling pots black.
