Edo Decides : Reject APC

By Abu Onyiani

I will not be voting in the 2024 Edo State Gubernatorial elections, due to geographical reasons. I am registered to vote in my hometown, Ososo, but sadly, issues beyond my control have forced me to sit this one out.

Up until a week ago, I promised not to vote in the elections owing to the conduct of many Labour Party officials, whose atavistic actions were demeaning and nauseating. Recall a few chiefs took the Benin Traditional Council to court.

To score cheap political points, members of the Labor Party (LP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) started a propaganda campaign at how their Oba, their god was being sued to court by disgruntled elements funded by the incumbent governor of Edo State Godwin Nogheghase Obasek and his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

This is laughable because firstly, the Oba wasn’t a party to the suit, and secondly, nobody should be above the law. I questioned the intellect of LP’s candidate Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, who is a lawyer, yet allowed people close to him to be roll in the mud like crazy pigs. He was my candidate yet I was hurt by the propaganda and decided not to vote.

Months later, the Oba further demystified himself when he ordered his agents to release a letter asking hungry Nigerian citizens not to protest, and instead allow more time for the unfeeling sadists at the helm of the nation’s affair to continue plundering and pillaging our motherland.

He was verbally abused and mocked on social media, and the protests held even close to his palace a few days later.

Last week, I listened to Olumide Akpata and decided to vote for him for two reasons, the first being that he was the best candidate in my eyes and the second because we need to reject APC at all levels.

Since APC got their leprous hands into the presidency, it has been one bad news or another. Almost ten years after Muhammadu Buhari unseated Jonathan in 2015, Nigeria has become a laughing stock before the world. He was inept and unaware and mostly showed a lack of awareness of national issues. During his regime, it was one deleterious policy after another.

I had always felt Buhari would be Nigeria’s worst president, but Bola Tinubu, now aptly nicknamed T-Pain for the suffering inflicted on helpless Nigerians while he cruises around with a newly acquired state-of-the-art private jet. Since he assumed office, it has been one thoughtlessly formulated policy or another.

T-Pain is also known to deliver vacuous speeches that often leave many wondering if he is aware of himself and his environment. His infamous BaalaaBluu BluuBluuBluu Bulaba speech is one notable example. I think to match him, the APC brought Monday Okphebholo who is functionally illiterate.

Like T-Pain, he avoided public debates and on one of the rare occasions he granted an interview, he said that if elected, he would be cooking the financial records of Edo State. The only time he seems to be alive is when Adams Oshiomhole is beside him, metaphorically stroking his phallus.

The same Adams Oshiomhole who is known (as shown by a BBC documentary) to encourage and reward violence and violent cultists, a disease still festering in the state to date. The same Oshiomhole who to many (not me because I have never rated him) went low to mocking Obaseki and his wife for being childless.

Although Adams Oshiomhole is 72, his actions show he is just a small boy.

Whatever you do tomorrow, please reject APC. A vote for them is to reward bad behavior from a party that actively practices prebendalism with your imprimatur.

Don’t do it, especially as over 2,000 Nigerian protesters are on trial for terrorism while they are fellating and rehabilitating actual terrorists and bandits.
